Amethyst - Gemstones 101

Amethyst originally comes from Ancien Greek Amethystos, which means sober (or literally, not drunk). The belief was that if you would use a glass made of amethyst, wear the gem, or even put it in your mouth, you could drink all night and stay sober. What a story Mark!

Properties & symbolism:
Depending on the History, and religions amethyst had different properties. In Ancien Egypt, amethyst was worn as an amulet, to protect its bearer. Early Christians consider it as purifying for the soul and spirit. Its color itself would reflect the wounds of Christ, therefore also used as a mean to heal wounds and suffering.
During the Italian Renaissance, Leonardo da Vinci used it to help him again negative thoughts, and facilitate his intuition and creativity.
